Stand Up Take Action

The “Stand up & Speak Out” Challenge was launched in 2006 as a part of the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC). It is organized around the world by governments and NGOs, and aims to encourage civilians to stand up on designated dates in support of the MDGs. Though small, this symbolic gesture is a way that ordinary people - of all nationalities, ages and social categories – not only learn about the issues facing their world but also urge their leaders to respect their commitment to the MDG's. For 2009, the UNMC has invited governments and NGOs coordinating the campaign locally to focus on the development goals of their choice (any of the eight) and encourage their participants to not just stand up and speak out, but also “Take Action” in support of those goals. The campaign was launched in the UAE for the first time in 2007, with the support of the International Humanitarian City. HRH Princess Haya has been the Patron of Stand Up Take Action since then. www.standup.ae
