Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Al Ali (formerly Rym Ibrahimi) is the
daughter of the Algeria-born diplomat, Al Akhdar Brahimi. She was
married to HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein on September 7th 2004.
Princess Rym was born in Egypt, and raised in Great Britain and
Algeria as stipulated by her father’s diplomatic career. She was
educated in France and the United States, obtaining a BA in Geography
and an MA in English Literature from the Sorbonne University in Paris,
from where she graduated with honors in 1990.
In 1991, Princess Rym completed a MPhil in Political Science and
International Affairs, specializing in Arab World Affairs, and in 1993
accomplished PhD course certificates in Political Science and
International Affairs at the Political Science Institute in Paris. In
1994, Princess Rym obtained a Masters Degree from the Columbia
University Graduate School of Journalism, concentrating on
International Reporting.
Early in her career, Princess Rym was an intern at the United Nations
Bureau, the French Ministry of Finance, and the International Desk of
Le Monde, Paris. She pursues a career in media that has been extended
to the United Nations Bureaus of the BBC World Service, the United
Press International, Dubai TV, Bloomberg International, and CNN
(London). Among the TV and magazine interviews carried out by Princess
Rym were interviews with the former UN Secretary General Boutros
Boutros-Ghali (when in office), Haitian President Rene Preval, the
late Yasser Arafat, James Baker, Henry Kissinger and Tareq Aziz, along
with other prominent Arab and world figures.
